GAIT-Score: An educational software for observational gait analysis

GAIT Score is an interdisciplinary research project with the goal of developing an educational software for observational gait analysis. In cooperation between researchers from the Institute for Creative\Media/Technologies and the Department of Physiotherapy at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences a high-level prototype was developed. The software includes several examples showing time-synchronized videos of a patient´s gait from frontal and sagittal view. Users can define sub-phases of gait and evaluate pathologies of gait with a standardized protocol. The outcomes of the students´ evaluation are automatically compared to an existing pool of expert evaluations who previously assessed the videos. GAIT Score is a learning tool allowing physiotherapy students to practice skills independently and providing the opportunity to prepare for practical work with patients.
